How Does The Press Fare In The Polls?

Presumably, most voters follow the campaign vicariously, getting information second hand from television, radio, newspapers and magazines, and the internet. What do they hear?

We know that Americans are more likely to say that the various media are liberal than to say they are conservative. In September, in a Gallup Poll, 45 percent said the media was too liberal while just 18 percent said it was too conservative. Only 35 percent said it was just about right. But voters tend to judge media coverage according to their own political beliefs. Conservatives are more likely to see liberal bias than liberals are.

When it comes to looking at the way the media cover individuals, Republicans and Democrats usually see things differently. In 2006, 61 percent of Republicans said the news media was harder on President George W.

Clinton and McCain win in California

If McCain failed to sweep the contests that followed his big win last week in Florida, his victories in the delegate-heavy Northeast and in Oklahoma were a sweet reward for his resurgent candidacy. Eight years ago, he had his presidential hopes dashed when he lost a coast-to-coast swath of nominating contests that were held that March that effectively ended his campaign.

The night buoyed Huckabee, who had been all but written off after his cash-starved candidacy struggled in the wake of his surprise victory in the Iowa caucuses. He defied expectations Tuesday by winning the West Virginia convention and primaries across a broad swath of the South, including Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and his home state of Arkansas.

"You know, over the past few days a lot of people have been trying to say that this is a two-man race," he told his supporters in a suburb of Little Rock, Arkansas.

After four years, boyfriend still can't share his feelings

EDITOR'S NOTE: Adapted from a recent online discussion.

Dear Carolyn: My boyfriend of four years and I have reached the "break up or get married point," and I think counseling could be helpful. He is resistant to couples counseling, has a variety of reasons he is resisting, but I think his real issue is that sitting in a room with a stranger and talking about "feelings" skeeves him out. Any suggestions for coaxing him into a session, or should I just give up the idea?

-- Therapy

Dear Therapy: Or, Door No. 3, ask yourself what his refusal says about him, and apply that to the way you want to live your life.

The point of therapy is twofold: to get stuff out in the open, and to make sense of that stuff. You've just been handed a solid truth about your boyfriend, free of charge.

Surgery for Mrs. Huckabee

Huckabee...well...I just don't know what will happen. He's been on her since the new Dodge truck commercial came out with the Rock em, Sock em robots on it....

He got his old robots out of the attic yesterday and named the red one Janet....explain to your kids what daddy's doing when they see him using a ball-peen hammer on Blue Bomber.....D...it's just a toy from Mattel.....get a grip hon.

I think he'll be alright once Mike Hucklebee loads all that furniture in the Bekin's van and heads over the bridge to NLR. I keep telling him it doesn't matter who the furniture belongs to....it's just furniture...it can be replaced. It's worth 70 thousand to be rid of the Hucklebees. But now he thinks Huck's God or Dick Clark or something....

I'm not sure he will survive the next 85 hours.

Mitsubishi workers handed lifeline as car plant closes

More than 900 people will lose their jobs when Mitsubishi closes its doors in South Australia at the end of March.

The decision follows years of losses for the company and poor sales of its 380 sedan, caused partly by a sharp rise in the Aussie dollar.

Federal Industry Minister Kim Carr says Mitsubishi workers will receive a $50 million assistance package, to be funded by the state and federal governments and Mitsubishi.

Senator Carr says the package will include up to $10 million for intensive assistance to workers and a $40 million fund to strengthen South Australia's manufacturing base.

Mitsubishi says it also will work with government agencies to provide counselling, job seeking, retraining and other support services.

The company's chief executive officer Rob McEniry says the decision to close the plant is "heartbreaking" but he believes the company has explored every possible option to keep it running.

Kitang-kita pa rin sa mukha ng mga kaanak ni Yap ang labis na pagdadalamhati lalo na at ang paraan ng pagkamatay ng kanilang ama ay paraang hindi nila inaasahan.

Giuliani Ends Race With $9 Million

Republican Mike Huckabee, who remains in the race despite McCain's commanding lead, reported raising about $4 million in January and spending nearly $5 million. Huckabee stunned the Republican field by winning the Iowa caucuses. He then lost a series of other January contests before winning in several Southern states on Super Tuesday.

Huckabee, who has run his campaign on a meager budget, had nearly $1 million cash on hand at the end of January and a debt of $54,000.

McCain, who filed his FEC report late Monday, raised nearly $12 million in January, helped by victories in New Hampshire and South Carolina that solidified his place as the leading candidate for the GOP presidential nomination.

McCain reported $5.2 million cash on hand at the start of February and $5.5 million in debts, including a loan of nearly $4 million.

Touchdown? Nah... splashdown!

A couple of years ago, one of the local media outlets mentioned us during a series on the most bizarre sports around, lumping us in with things like the table-top hockey league."

Sean Ennis, an executive member of the Manitoba Underwater Council, underwater football's governing body, agrees that most people look at him like he's gone off the deep end when he tells them how he spends his Friday nights.

"Even the lifeguards shake their heads at us. But you know what? People who try it once come out of the water saying, 'It's crazy, it's nuts... when can I play again?'"

The term "underwater football" is somewhat of a misnomer. The game is actually closer to rugby. That is, if rugby were played with snorkels, fins and Speedos.

To begin, teams of five line up at opposite ends of the pool.
